Innovation Saskatchewan Renews Support for AGTECH ACCELERATOR with $300,000 Investment

Innovation Saskatchewan is investing $300,000 over the next three years in the AGTECH ACCELERATOR, renewing its commitment to one of Saskatchewan's flagship programs for developing and attracting high-potential agricultural technology companies.  

The agency will provide $100,000 annually from 2026 to 2028 to support the accelerator's delivery of three additional cohorts of agtech companies. Managed by Cultivator powered by Conexus, the AGTECH ACCELERATOR helps startups scale through mentorship, industry connections and access to capital while attracting companies from across Canada and internationally to establish operations and invest in Saskatchewan.  

"Saskatchewan has built a strong reputation as a global leader in agricultural innovation, and programs like the AGTECH ACCELERATOR are helping transform that potential into economic growth," Minister Responsible for Innovation Saskatchewan Warren Kaeding said. "By supporting entrepreneurs and attracting innovative companies to our province, we are strengthening Saskatchewan's position as Canada's agtech hub."  

Innovation Saskatchewan has been a founding partner of the AGTECH ACCELERATOR and has provided annual funding to the program since 2022. The renewed investment reflects the agency's continued commitment to growing Saskatchewan's agtech ecosystem and accelerating the commercialization of homegrown innovation.  

The investment announcement was made during Startup Summit, Cultivator powered by Conexus' annual entrepreneurship and innovation event, on Sept. 9.

"The program equips founders with the networks, expertise and industry connections they need to grow successful companies while also attracting new investment and talent to Saskatchewan. This renewed commitment will help ensure Saskatchewan remains a destination for agtech innovation and entrepreneurship."  

The accelerator serves a dual purpose by supporting Saskatchewan-based agtech startups and attracting promising companies from outside the province. Through a formal partnership with Innovate UK, the United Kingdom's national innovation agency, the AGTECH ACCELERATOR participates in Innovate UK's Global Incubator Programme. The partnership brings at least five UK-based agtech companies to Saskatchewan in each cohort to build industry connections and explore opportunities to expand their businesses into North American markets.

Since the partnership began in 2022, 25 UK-based agtech companies have engaged with Saskatchewan through the accelerator.  

The program has helped a growing number of companies achieve commercial success and attract investment. Saskatchewan-based Ground Truth Agriculture has raised more than $7 million in venture capital since participating in the accelerator. Super GeoAI has expanded its commercial reach with crop insurance providers across Canada, while AgScouter successfully launched as an independent startup following its participation in the program.  

The accelerator has also helped attract businesses and talent to Saskatchewan. British Columbia-based Lucent BioSciences has established significant manufacturing and research and development operations in the province, while Chariot Command's founder relocated to Yorkton after building key industry and academic connections through the program.  

By supporting entrepreneurs, attracting investment and fostering commercialization, the AGTECH ACCELERATOR continues to advance Saskatchewan's goal of becoming the leading destination for agtech innovation in Canada.
